How We Got Our Name

Many patients who walk through our door for the first time have questions about our practice's name. Here's the full story—straight from Dr. Fish himself.

I found my first four-leaf clover as a child when I was on my way to a friend's house to play a board game after school. I accidentally dropped the game as I got to the end of the driveway. When I looked down to pick up my game, there was a four-leaf clover growing right there in the grass. I put a big stick to mark the clover so I could pick it up on my way home.

I got home and carefully laid the clover between two pages in one of my mom's books on the shelf. A few days later, it was dried, flat, and preserved.

Every day, as I waited for the bus at the end of the long driveway, I looked for clovers. I marked them with sticks or rocks. On the way home, I picked and pressed them in one of the books on the big bookshelf.

I did this all through grade school. I had hundreds of clovers in books all over the house. I always thought they were pretty easy to find.

Now, as I walk along a path, I often see four-leaf clovers growing in a patch of weeds. As I walk through someone's lawn or field, I can't help but look at the grass. Anytime I look for one, I always find one. I have found thousands of four-leaf clovers over the years.

My brothers and family shake their heads every time I bend down to pick something from the grass. "Are you serious? Did you just find another one? I don't know how you do that." They've even made bets with friends or girlfriends that I could find one in the patch of weeds on the edge of the gas station or in a park in the middle of the field.

Every time I look, I find one. It usually takes just one to two minutes. I still enjoy finding them and I still feel each one is special. I still try to press and preserve all of them I find. If I can't preserve the four-leaf clover right away, I find someone to gift it to before it wilts and dies.

I have found four-leaf clovers all over the world, including at home in Washington, Utah, Rhode Island, Ohio, Oregon, Idaho, California, Nevada, France, Argentina, Canada, Hawaii, and more.

I have a wonderful wife and daughter. I enjoy my career. I get to be a doctor. I am grateful for all these wonderful blessings. I consider myself very lucky. Beacuse of this, I adopted the four-leaf clover as a family symbol, and I used it to name my podiatry practice.
